I first stumbled up on Gunnars work with these amazing core strength 30 minute workout DVD’s I used in college- I know that seems like forever ago- but he trained Brooke Burke and I thought okay, I’m giving this a go! His workouts are practical, yet push you to the limit and not to mention, he’s worked with THE biggest brands in the health and fitness community and is sought after as a fitness professional. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PHILOSOPHY ABOUT BEING FIT AND HEALTHY?

I make conscious decisions in the gym, at the table, and when it’s time to rest, and I make those decisions every day. Over time the sum total of those decisions proves itself out in how I feel, how I perform, and how I look.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED CREATING YOUR PASSION INTO THE PROFESSION YOU HAVE TODAY, TRAINING THE BIGGEST A-LISTERS?

I keep learning, I keep pushing, and I keep showing up. The game comes to you when you are a constant in a sea of transience.

YOU’VE TRAINED SOME OF THE KARDASHIANS, BROOKE BURKE, SOFIA VERGARA, JENNIFER LOPEZ, AND THE LIST GOES ON; WHAT ARE YOUR TOP EXERCISE ROUTINES AND SUGGESTIONS TO KEEP THEM IN TIP TOP CONDITION AND LOOKING LEAN YEAR ROUND?

The answer to that would be a book in and of itself! I focus on muscle confusion, high intensity intervals, multi-joint movements, and a dose of levity every time it seems like it’s too hard!

WHEN WAS YOUR “AH-HA” MOMENT, OF WHEN YOU FELT YOU WERE SUCCEEDING AT WHAT YOU DO?

I have those every day! They are disguised in references to my mother or in adding an additional workout in a given week, but when you look closely, they are all versions of validation!

“There are 2 ways to do things: right, or over.”

WHO OR WHAT GIVES YOU THE MOST INSPIRATION?

My kids, my wife, my brother, and my parents. That’s it.

NOW WHAT’S YOUR ACTUAL TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?

Today. It looks just like today. I make my days. I choose my days. As long as I wake up and as long as my family is healthy, and as long as I get my workout in-EVERYTHING is great.

FUELING YOUR BODY FROM WORKOUTS AND LIVING LEAN TAKES WORK, WHAT’S YOUR TYPICAL MEAL FOR…
  • First thing upon waking: Fruit and almond butter.
  • Morning: Protein shake, fruit, almond butter.
  • Lunch: Protein (usually salmon or chicken) and vegetables.
  • Supper: Protein (usually egg whites or fish) and vegetables.
  • Snacks or sweets: Almonds, fruit, or the wheels come off and I have a vanilla frozen yogurt with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! A huge one!
  • Favorite beverage: Moonshine. Oh, wait, I mean, water. Wait, no, Gatorade. Wait! Depends on the time, place, and mood!
IF YOU COULD PICK ONE MEAL TO EAT OVER AND OVER AGAIN, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Whichever one is the biggest! Probably the morning meal. I love it but there’s never enough!

WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH, SMILE, AND BE JOYFUL?

The same things that inspire me: My kids, my wife, my brother, and my parents. That’s it. And my dogs. And my clients. Not always in that order though…

WHAT’S THE ONE EXERCISE MOVE YOU SWEAR BY TO INSTANTLY FEEL BETTER AND MORE ENERGIZED?

Dumbbell squat to curl to twisting press. I feel better just answering that question.

HOW DOES YOUR TECHNIQUE AND WORKOUTS DIFFER FROM OTHER WORKOUTS OUT THERE, WHAT MAKES IT SO EFFECTIVE?

There is such a variety of modalities and protocols out there that answer would be another book! The efficacy comes in the adherence. The more you do it, the more you get out of it. So when people are on point, it works automatically. Which means, how do you get people to keep coming back? Great parking and clean bathrooms…

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS OR TRICKS TO LIVING HEALTHY, LEAN, AND FIT?

Stay natural, stay clean, stay honest, and have fun with your training. Levity keeps you lean.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AND YOUR BUSINESS NEXT YEAR, WHAT’S NEXT?

Hopefully more of the same. I have a  lot of fun projects in the works right now. Fitness can take you anywhere. It’s universal so keep your passport handy and stay in shape so you don’t have to get in shape!
